Winter Festival of Lights
One of the best parts about winter in Niagara Falls is the city’s annual Winter Festival of Lights, running this year from November 18th to January 31st. Travel along the 8km illumination route and take in the beauty of sparkling lights illuminating Niagara Parks landscapes, Dufferin Islands, and the city’s tourist district. This year’s festival will feature incredible illumination displays of the iconic Zimmerman fountain, 3D Canadian wildlife, Noah’s Ark, the world’s largest Canadian-American flag, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and over fifty trees in Dufferin Islands.
And bring your family down to the festival’s opening ceremonies on November 18th in Queen Victoria Park where you can take in the spectacular NorthFIRE pyrotechnic show, enjoy free hot chocolate, coffee and lattes from Tim Hortons, and catch two amazing fireworks shows over the illuminated Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade
A wonderful family-friendly holiday experience to check out while in Niagara Falls is the city’s annual Santa Claus Parade, happening this year on Saturday November 18th at 11am. The parade begins on Victoria Avenue at Armoury Street and travels north along Victoria Avenue, Valley Way, and Queen Street, ending at City Hall. It will feature twelve amazing marching bands, stilt walkers, inflatable gingerbread men and snowmen, and of course, Santa Claus.
And during the parade, Canada Post will be collecting letters to Santa along the parade route, the Salvation Army will be giving out free hot chocolate in Rosberg Family Park, there will be free balloons, face painting and caricatures near City Hall, and Tim Hortons will be giving away free hot chocolate and coffee at the corner of Queen Street and Valley Way.
A Christmas Carol at the Shaw
Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol is being brought to the stage at the Shaw’s Royal George Theatre this holiday season and is a performance that you and your family won’t want to miss out on. With multiple show dates in November and December, you can experience the story of Ebenezer Scrooge performed by world-class actors in beautiful Niagara on the Lake.
